Wyze Unveils a Wireless Version of Its Affordable Video Doorbell

The Wyze Video Doorbell Pro outside a home.

We love the affordable Wyze Video Doorbell, but its wired design makes installation difficult (if not impossible) for some customers. That’s why Wyze is launching a new Video Doorbell Pro, a wireless version of its original Doorbell that takes just five minutes to install.

The new Wyze Video Doorbell Pro is actually very similar to its non-pro sibling. Both doorbells offer the same IP65 weatherproofing, two-way audio support, motion detection, and two weeks of free rolling cloud storage. Also, they both come with the Wyze Chime, a customizable doorbell chime that plugs into an outlet and skips your existing doorbell wiring.

So, what’s different? Well, the new Wyze Video Doorbell Pro has a 60-day battery and comes with an adhesive mounting system for easy installation. It also works on wired power, should you choose to go down that route, and its mounting plate can screw into the doorbell panel outside of your home.

There’s also a small change to the resolution. While the original Wyze Video Doorbell captures video at 1080p, the new Video Doorbell Pro shoots at a cool 1440p. That’s a nice little spec bump, but nothing too crazy.

But Wyze made one decision that I’m a little confused about. While the original Video Doorbell has a head-to-toe 3:4 aspect ratio, the new Video Doorbell Pro has a square shaped 1:1 aspect ratio. It still has a wide FOV, so it’ll capture a wide viewing area, but the video feed will be kinda squashed on your phone. Maybe it’s time for Wyze to launch a web app for its camera feeds?

You can pre-order the Wyze Video Doorbell Pro now for $65 plus shipping, or grab the old wired version for $50 plus shipping. If you subscribe to the Wyze Cam Plus service, you can unlock features like Person Detection and full-length video storage (Wyze Cam videos are usually capped at 12 seconds).

The Wyze Video Doorbell Pro works in wired or wireless modes, shoots 1440p video, and comes with a free Wyze Chime (which makes installation so much easier). Pre-order it now for $65 plus shipping and get it this December.

Can’t wait? The basic Wyze Video Doorbell only works in wired mode, but like the Pro model it captures HD video, works at night, has a weatherproof design, and offers two-way audio.
