This week Toyota gave us a preview of its electric vehicle plans, stating the company aims to release 30 different EV models by the year 2030. And while there are plenty of exciting concept vehicles, the Tacoma-like EV pickup is by far the most exciting.

Toyota hopes to have nearly 15 different EV models on the market by 2025, starting with an EV pickup that could rival the Tesla Cybertruck and upcoming Ford F-150 Lightning. And while Toyota didn't call it a "Tacoma EV" during the announcement and instead only mentioned an EV Pickup Truck, it's clear that we're looking at what's likely the next-generation Toyota Tacoma.

Toyota has stated previously that an electric pickup truck is on the way, and now we have further proof that this model could soon become a reality. You see below a vehicle that closely resembles the current Toyota Tacoma, only with subtle changes to match the new 2022 Tundra redesign, not to mention a closed grill since this will be an EV.

At this point, we don't really have any information on this Toyota concept EV pickup, but the four-door crew-cab configuration with off-road tires and prominent fender flares suggests a TRD Off-Road or TRD Pro model. The overall styling combines the current Tacoma and the new Tundra.

It's hard to get a sense of the size, as it does look slightly larger than a typical Toyota Tacoma, meaning this EV could be positioned to take on the Rivian R1T electric truck as well. With how production-ready the image above looks, this could be the new Tacoma, and Toyota could offer it in both a regular ICE engine and an EV option for potential buyers. But, again, that's purely speculation.

Given how the EV market is moving, we're expecting some big announcements from Toyota in 2022, including an official electric truck debut at some point. For now, all we have are these teaser images.

During the unveiling, Toyota showed off nearly 30 different vehicles either on the way or planned for the future, including a new FJ Cruiser, sedans, SUV, sportscar, CUV, and more. The idea here is that the most successful models between now and 2030 will help shape the brand's future direction.

The company also said that it has expanded its investment in battery technology to nearly $17.6 billion and hopes to sell roughly 3.5 million electric vehicles globally by 2030. While this is all exciting, we'll definitely be keeping our eye on that Tacoma-like EV pickup.
