After first announcing its affordable F-150 Lightning electric truck in May of 2021, Ford is now planning on doubling its production efforts for it. The advanced schedule now means an output of 150,000 trucks by early- to mid-2023.

Both models of the electric pickup—the F-150 Lightning and F-150 Lightning Pro—are now officially in the final pre-build stage at Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan. Initially, the targeted annual production number for the F-150 Lightning was just 40,000; later, Ford told suppliers it would increase that capacity to 80,000 by early 2023.

And now, that number has nearly doubled again to the current target of 150,000. The company also has yet to release details regarding how many units it’s planning on producing in 2022. It did recently announce, however, that it would triple production for its Mustang Mach-E, reaching more than 200,000 units by 2023; additionally, Ford will officially make its electric delivery fan available to purchase sometime in early 2022.

The company also shared that the first wave of its F-150 Lightning reservation holders would be able to start picking details like trim levels starting January 6. This process will progress one wave at a time, and Ford will inform each reservation holder when it’s their turn to finalize the details for their trucks.

The base model of the Ford F-150 Lightning starts at $39.974; it’s worth noting that the price can nearly double depending on the version you select. Recently, however, Ford had to close its pre-order system after receiving such a high quantity of orders.
