During the Pixel 7 launch event, Google promised that buyers would eventually gain free mobile access to the Google One VPN. This perk is finally available to Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro owners---you can set up Google's VPN with just a few quick steps.

This perk may take a few days to arrive on your Pixel 7 smartphone.

The Google One VPN usually requires a 2TB cloud storage subscription. We're happy that Google is including the VPN as a Pixel 7 perk, as it's a solid and simple option for increasing online privacy. (That said, this VPN isn't very robust. You can't use it to get around region locks, for instance.)

Here's how you enable Google One VPN on your Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro:

  1. Install and open the Google One app.
  2. Tap the "Benefits" tab at the bottom of your screen.
  3. Scroll down and find the card labeled "VPN Protection for Multiple Devices."
  4. Select "View Details."
  5. Tap "Use VPN."

Once enabled, you should see a Google One VPN alert in your notification shade. An icon that looks like a key will also appear on the top right of your Pixel phone, next to your battery life and networking indicators.

Certain apps may refuse to work properly with your Google One VPN. Thankfully, you can let select apps bypass the VPN through the Google One app. Just navigate to that "VPN Protection for Multiple Devices" card and select "View Settings."

Free access to the Google One VPN is slowly rolling out to Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones. If these options aren't available on your phone yet, wait a few days and try again.
