Update Your Plex Server Or TV Artwork Won’t Work After January 31st

When I was a teenager, I loved being able to load up my iPod with a bunch of songs and listen to those songs while headed to school. However, not having the artwork for my music really annoyed me. Assuming you still run an old server version of the Plex Media Server, you’ll feel the same annoyance I did.

In an email sent to Plex customers, the service said it will make a configuration change on January 31. The change will prevent new TV shows added to libraries on older Plex Media Servers from getting artwork. If you’re a Plex customer, that means you must have Plex Media Server 1.8.12 or higher starting January 31 if you want the server to continue fetching TV show posters and episode thumbnails from TheTVDB.

The good news is grabbing the latest version of the Plex Media Server is simple enough. Just head to the downloads page on Plex’s website and get the latest version. As of this writing, the latest Plex Media Server version is 1.18.4.2171-ac2afe5f8 for Windows, MacOS, Linux, and FreeBSD. If you have questions or a problem presents itself, Plex points you to its Server forums to ask others.
