It’s that time of year again, when the best of the best nocturnal birds gather to determine the champion. Also I guess there’s some kind of football game going on. But if you really want to see 49 owls battle to determine which one is the Chief, you should do it with the best TV you possibly can.
We’ve selected five of the best TV deals, from cheapest to most expensive, all of which should be available for either shipping or in-store pickup before this Sunday. Because this Sunday is important. Because of the owls.
The Absolute Cheapest Deal: TCL 55-Inch, $280
If you don’t have any television to speak of and you want a reasonably big one for the game owls, this TCL deal is for you. For $280, Amazon will sell you a 55-inch 4K TCL with built-in Roku software (probably the best smart TV platform out there at the moment). This TV doesn’t have the latest and greatest tech for a quality picture, but it does 4K resolution for game consoles, 4K Blu-ray players, and some streaming apps, supports HDMI ARC for easy connection to a soundbar, and even does basic HDR. For a big TV deal, it’s unbeatable at the moment.
TCL 55S425 55 inch 4K Smart LED Roku TV (2019)
This 55-inch TCL TV is the cheapest way to go big for Superb Owl Sunday, and its included Roku software is among the best smart TV programs available.
Best Budget Upgrade: Hisense 65-inch, $400
If 55 inches isn’t quite enough for your space and your budget can stretch a little further, Best Buy has a massive 65-inch model from Hisense for only $400, $100 off the original retail price. It’s also got some surprising upgrades: Android TV software for a wide selection of apps and Google Assistant, built-in Bluetooth for easy audio pairing, and 120Hz refresh rate. (Cinemaphiles will scoff at that one, but hey, it looks good when you’re watching sporting owls.) Just make sure you’ve got somewhere to put it: this TV’s huge and its included stand needs a wide base.
Best Dollar-For-Size: Samsung 70-Inch, $600
At just $600 for a 70-inch TV, this is the biggest screen for the lowest price you’re going to find this Superb Owl Sunday. That being said, you’re definitely making a few sacrifices for that huge size: Samsung’s smart TV software isn’t the best, and this TV has only two HDMI inputs. It does include 4K and basic HDR If you’re looking for an absolutely massive screen to fill up with owls for as little money as possible, this is it.
Best High-End Starter: Sony 65-inch, $1100
Ready to get serious about owl-focused picture quality? Then this 65-inch Sony is for you. On paper it doesn’t look like much of an upgrade, but Sony’s X1 Extreme image processing tech puts its picture quality head and feathered shoulders above budget competition. This set also includes Android TV, four (count ’em, four) HDMI inputs, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a voice-controlled remote with an IR blaster in the box. This deal is available from both Amazon and Best Buy.
Sony XBR65X900F 65-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV with Alexa Compatibility
This 65-inch Sony TV has incredible picture quality and tons of software smarts.
Best OLED TV: LG 65-inch, $1800
If you want the absolute best picture quality you can get and money is no object, then an OLED TV is the way to go. This 65-inch LG model has mind-blowing contrast, pixel-by-pixel dimming, Dolby Vision and Atmos support, and LG’s smart TV platform is compatible with Google, Amazon, and Apple smarthome tech. $1800 for a new TV isn’t chump change, especially if owls are your primary concern, but it’s an amazing $1200 off the retail price from less than a year ago. This price is available at Best Buy and Amazon.
LG OLED65B9PUA B9 Series 65" 4K Ultra HD Smart OLED TV (2019)
For the best TV picture possible, you gotta go OLED. And for OLED deals, this top-of-the-line LG model can't be beaten.
