Audible, the subscription-based audiobook platform from Amazon, just unveiled its new Audible Stories program for kids and teens. In short, Stories is a web page that’s filled with hundreds of audiobooks, from toddler’s stories, to teen thrillers, to literary classics. Anyone can use Audible Stories—the platform is 100% free, and you don’t even need to log in.
According to a mass email from Amazon, the Audible Stories program is a “screen-free option” for entertainment and education during social distancing and school closures. In other words, Audible Stories might make for a healthy, free alternative (or supplement) to video games and TV. It’s also worth noting that this is web-only, so you won’t find it in the Audible app.
Again, the Stories page is totally free and doesn’t require any log-ins or credit cards. Its interface is similar to Audible’s, with speed controls and glossaries for each title. Still, Stories should be easy for anyone to use, even if you’ve never had an Audible account.
Audible Stories offers audiobooks for English, Spanish, German, French, Japanese, and Italian listeners. Amazon hasn’t clarified how long the Audible Stories program will last.
