Starting April 6th, if you’re on a qualifying T-Mobile plan, the mobile provider will give you both a free year of Quibi and a free year of Netflix. After that, you can pick one service to continue seeing for free. Go ahead and admit it, that service is Netflix.
If you have no idea what the heck Quibi is, don’t feel bad. Technically the service doesn’t exist yet. But when it launches on April 6th, it will be a video content service focused on short videos, preferably less than ten minutes. The company refers to those videos as Quick Bites—hence Quibi. Even original shows will mostly feature episodes ten minutes or less, and explicitly filmed for watching on your phone.
It has significant backers and celebrity involvement to start, aside from T-Mobile, you’ll find content from Jennifer Lopez, Chrissy Teigen, and Liam Hemsworth.
The deal for T-Moble starts on launch day, and plans with two or more qualifying lines get the benefit. You’ll get Netflix and Quibi free for a year, and after that, you have to pick a service to keep.
Only time will tell how Quibi shakes out in the year to come, but right now, the safe bet is probably Netflix.
