Yesterday, we reported HBO’s plan to terminate HBO NOW and HBO GO on 2nd and 3rd gen Apple TV devices. But we’re happy to announce that HBO is pushing back its end date from April 30th to May 15th! That’s 15 extra days, guys!
What are you going to do with your 15 extra days in paradise? Well, I’m going to get used to using AirPlay to cast shows to my old Apple TV. HBO is only removing its NOW and GO apps from old Apple TVs, but you can still use Apple AirPlay to cast HBO content from the network’s mobile apps. This includes the 500 hours of free content available from HBO right now.
If you aren’t sure which Apple TV you own, then take a peek at Apple’s identification chart. Or just look at your Apple TV remote—2nd and 3rd gen Apple TVs come with an aluminum remote, while newer models are packaged with a black Siri Remote. If you’re thinking of upgrading your Apple TV, then check out the Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K on Amazon.
