After weeks of delays, Epic finally released the new season of its uber-popular battle royale shooter, Fortnite, today. When Agency boss Midas tried to destroy the storm (the thing that forces players towards the center of the map), a tsunami flooded the island, giving players a splashy new playground for 1-on-100 mayhem.
The new flooded map changes the topography in radical ways, giving battle royale fans a ton of new and altered areas to explore. To help get around, they’ll have access to rideable sharks and new ground vehicles. As the season progresses, the water will recede, bringing even more changes. There’s also a new faction of NPC goons, the Marauders, decked out in post-apocalyptic gear. Of course there are new items and weapons to play with, too.
Fortnite is still free, but players willing to spend ten bucks on the Battle Pass get access to a host of exclusive skins, emotes, and other goodies. These include a movie-style Aquaman skin (thematically appropriate!) and a customizable version of the umbrella for skydiving.
Fortnite is a free download on the Epic Games Store on PC, macOS, iOS, Android, and all current game consoles.
