Over at LEGO, something extraordinary happened. It hosts a LEGO Ideas center, where anybody can submit a concept for consideration as a real set. If a submission gets 10,000 Likes soon enough, LEGO will investigate turning the idea into reality. And now, a fantastic looking set based on Terry Pratchett’s Discworld passed that barrier.
Discworld, if you’re unfamiliar, is a fictional world set in a fantastical setting. One of the most notable features is that the world is flat, not round. Oh, and if you look over the edge, you’ll find the planet balanced on the backs of four elephants. And, those elephants stand on the back of a giant turtle.
The entire series of books is fantastic, and if you haven’t read them, you can start with Color of Magic (adapted for TV with some success), though my personal favorite is Small Gods.
And, that brings us to the LEGO Ideas set. That flat planet upon elephants upon a giant turtle? Imagine that in LEGO form. Or don’t, as someone else already has, and submitted it to LEGO. Now it reached the 10,000 like threshold, and we can begin the wait to see if LEGO makes it a real set we can buy.
