Google used to objectively have the best emoji. Now, they don’t. However, the past isn’t forgotten, as Google’s now added the beloved blobs as a sticker pack to Gboard and Messages.
If you’re using Google’s stock keyboard (which you can download here) or the Messages app, you’ll find a new option when browsing new sticker packs: The Blobs Live On. This pack features a range of animated versions of Google’s classic blob emoji. Obviously, since it’s a sticker pack, you have far fewer options—24 options, specifically, compared to hundreds of emoji—but the ones you do get have a lot more personality than they used to.
Google’s decision to get rid of the blobs made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. This new sticker pack, strategically if confusingly released on World Emoji Day, should do a bit to make fans of the blob feel a bit better about their clearly inferior new, non-blob emoji.
