Everyone can agree that exercise is good for the body and mind. However, if you think regular old exercise is boring, Peloton’s upcoming in-app video game is here to gamify things and make your next cycling workout a little more exciting.
The new game, dubbed Lanebreak, will be exclusively available for Peloton bike owners and subscribers and involves controlling an on-screen rolling wheel. Riders can select a difficulty level, music genre, and track duration before starting the gamified workout. Naturally, riders will also be able to change their resistance and cadence to align with their goals.
From the looks of it, those familiar with Mario Kart‘s iconic Rainbow Road video game course will see a little similarity. You’ll pedal to keep your tire moving and achieve goals. The game also offers three challenge types that help you earn points: Breakers, based on energy output; Streams, based on your cadence; and Pickups, which earn you points as long as you stay in the proper lane. The game isn’t necessarily meant to replace your normal classes, but it’s a fun supplement you can add to your daily routine.
While the game is not currently available, a members-only beta may open up later in 2021; Peloton has yet to release more details. We will provide an update as soon as more information becomes available.
