True wireless earbuds offer the ultimate portability and stay out of your way when you wear them while doing other activities, like running or gaming. Will the head gestures controlling Klipsch’s new T5 II True Wireless ANC earbuds further this convenience, though, or just get in the way?
For the most part, these buds keep pretty much the same design as their predecessors, the T5 II True Wireless buds. Klipsch did redesign the 5.8mm driver to have a thinner diaphragm, however, and the IP rating dropped from IP67 to IPX4. It also threw in some new (and welcome) features. Now, you’ll get active noise canceling, of course, along with Dirac HD Sound technology (for optimized sound performance) and the addition of Bragi AI. The latter of which is what powers the earbuds’ head gesture controls.
The new T5 IIs will let you nod your head to answer a phone call and shake your head to decline calls or skip music tracks. This technology takes “hands-free” to the next level. While it’ll undoubtedly be welcome while relaxing at home, there’s always the possibility that you’ll get a weird look (or two) if you’re constantly nodding and shaking your head with these out in public.
Regardless of which version you choose, the earbuds offer a solid array of features on top of the head gestures and active noise cancelation. They have an IPX4 rating, up to seven hours of battery life (five with ANC) plus 21 from the case, wireless charging via any Qi-compatible charger, dual-mic noise cancellation, Bluetooth 5 connectivity, and six extra sizes of Klipsch’s patented oval ear tips.
Bragi’s software also offers other neat features, in addition to the gestures. It’ll shield your ears from unexpected loud noises while using Transparency Mode, help you hear your own voice naturally while taking calls, let you configure shortcuts and smart actions, and use its equalizer to optimize your audio experience from Klipsch’s Connect app (Android/iOS).
The earphones are available in silver, gunmetal, and copper colors, for $299. You can also opt to spring for the Mclaren Edition, seen in the video above, for just $50 more. That version comes with a matching wireless charging pad that’s equipped with NuCurrent charging tech.
