Fossil recently teased its upcoming Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch lineup, touting it as “way more, way faster.” Now, a newer leak has revealed a slick-looking design that’s a smart upgrade from the watch’s previous iteration.
This leak was first spotted by WinFuture as a retail listing, complete with photos and specs. There appears to be both 44mm and 42mm styles, all with three buttons and a central crown on the right side of the display. The leak source states that the Fossil Gen 6 will run Wear OS on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 4100+ SoC. If that turns out to be true, it’ll mark a noteworthy step forward in companies taking Wear OS more seriously, especially if the watch supports Wear OS 3 (which it likely won’t until later 2022).
The 4100+ SoC shrinks the structure width down to 12nm from 28nm and offers four ARM Cortex-A53 cores with up to 1.7GHz along with a faster Adreno A504 GPU. The leak suggests 8GB of internal memory and support for both GPS and Bluetooth 5.0, so you can connect your smartphone.
The watch appears to feature a 1.28-inch OLED display with a 416 x 416-pixel resolution, which should also offer always-on functionality and a super bright and colorful display without much power consumption. The pictures in the leak show a beautiful radial display with complications for tracking things like sleep, steps, calories burned, heart rate, cardio fitness level, and even blood oxygen levels. The latter is likely possible due to a SpO2 sensor, a more advanced feature for health tracking.
On the rear of the watch, you’ll see the sensors that help detect each of these metrics. They might possibly even be able to support an Activity Mode with GPS and track your running route data. You’ll also be able to take the Gen 6 for a swim if it’s in a case, which will likely be water-resistant down to 50 meters. As for wristbands, there looks to be three options: metal, leather, or fabric.
Battery life should offer you roughly 24 hours per charge for average use along with an energy-saving mode that’ll extend your battery out to multiple days. You can fully charge the watch in an hour, or net 80 percent after approximately 30 minutes. The leak suggests that pricing will start at €299 (about $350 USD) and that it’ll be available on September 27, 2021. We’ll provide more updates as they become available.
