Alex Johnson

Alex Johnson is a freelance writer for Review Geek. His memory isn’t great, but he vaguely recalls spending the first decade of his career working as an editor and feature writer for a Cape & Plymouth Business, a regional business magazine in Massachusetts. Academically, his background was in poetry writing and film studies, for some reason, and every day since has been a struggle.

Aside from Review Geek, Alex writes “funny and/or poignant” articles about history and occasionally science for Museum Hack, and is the coauthor of the book Museum Hack’s Guide to History’s Fiercest Females, as well as another forthcoming book about bad people from history. When he’s not doing that, he’s writing white papers and technical marketing copy for telecommunications firms and the energy industry, and edits things for nonprofit clients working on national education and labor reform.

When Alex isn’t trying to make money, he’s spending it on absurdly expensive historical fencing equipment and floor fees, studying 14th-century Italian martial arts with his local historical fencing club. His related concussions may partially explain the aforementioned memory problems. He likes: film and TV, history, medieval stuff, languages, and swords. He loves: his private time, dogs, other animals that aren’t spiders, and ruining medieval period films for people within earshot. He is an only child and had both SNES and Genesis as a kid.
