Happy Thursday. One of my favorite Google Assistant features is “find my phone.” If I misplace my phone (or it gets lost in the couch, which happens regularly), I can shout to one of my many Assistant displays and ask it to find my phone. Up until now, however, this only worked on Android phones.
Assistant recently got some new tricks, including the ability to find (and ring) your misplaced iPhone. It’s opt-in for now, so make sure to do that if you want to use the feature. Once you’re finished, you can get Assistant to order takeout for you. Nice.
TCL showed off some new phones with top-end displays, as well as a new “Fold N Roll” concept. Yep, it does exactly what it sounds like it does. It’s wild.
IKEA’s iconic Allen wrench is now a flashlight. Or a table lamp. We don’t know why it exists, but we’re absolutely here for it.

Last year when ZTE announced the Axon 20 5G, it made waves by hiding its front-facing camera under the display. Classic photos of Abe Lincoln seem incredibly detailed, showing tons of wrinkles and cracks in the president’s skin. But much of that “detail” is a flaw of early camera tech, which couldn’t capture a good chunk of the visible light spectrum. Now, a the Time-Travel Rephotography colorization AI shows us what Abe might look like if old cameras were more accurate. Read More »

Hot weather is here, which means the bugs are too. This slick UV light bug trap can keep the inside of your home free from gnats, moths, fruit flies, mosquitoes, and other pests. It’s also a great solution for keeping bugs away from your upcoming backyard barbecues. The UV lights attract bugs, suck them in, and trap them with sticky glue boards, and don’t look ugly while sitting in your home. It isn’t an insect killer lamp, however. It works best in low-light situations or at night, and you can manually turn it on to either the low or standard speed settings.
